I can't say that I've gone a long way on this front as a designer. Mostly I've participated as a 3d-modeller, though here are around 34% of my original interior or exterior design ideas. You can see some copyrighted components that in fact belong to another designer.
From another point of view I should note that 3d-modelling is almost always co-work with another designer because it depends on the modeller what and how the idea will look on the picture. And more important, again it depends on how close the modeller rendered the picture to real view. This is hard because our photo perception and 3D world perception is pretty different. Again 3d-modeller is responsible for technical precision of the 3d model. Otherwise this is not more than an art picture. No, i'm not saying "hey, the designer is just a bottle-washer here". I'm saying that the 3d-modeller plays a very important role - he technically brings the designer's idea alive and this is almost engineering.
